GGHS – Tulasipriya Muley speaks on “Guru Seva” through the story of “Daumya Muni and Udhalak”

I AM GOING TO NARRATE A WONDROUS STORY ABOUT DHOMYA MUNI AND HIS DISCIPLE UDDALAK.

Uddalak was a dedicated disciple to his guru. Once Dhomya muni told Uddalak to graze the cows. Uddalak readily accepted his gurus instructions. As he grazed the cows he would stay hungry the whole day. So he started drinking the cows milk. Dhomya muni said to Uddalak “My dear child you are not supposed to drink the cows milk as it is meant for the calves.” Uddalak stopped drinking the milk of the cows. He would lick the fane of milk dripping down from the calf‟s mouth and used to eat fruits. Dhomya muni prohibated Uddalak from licking the fane and eating fruits. Now Uddalak started living on leaves. One day Uddalak ate poisonous leaves and became blind. While returning to the hermitage he fell into the dried deep well. Dhomya muni began to search for Uddalak. He said ‟Uddalak, Uddalak where are you? ” ‟I am here Guruji.”said a faint voice from the well. Dhomya muni pulled Uddalak out. With his yogic powers he called the Ashwini kumaras to cure Uddalaks blindness. ‟YOU ARE THE BEST DISCIPLE IN THE WORLD” Said Dhomya muni hugging Uddalak with tears in his eyes.
