I will tell you the story of Ajamila
Ajamila was a learned son of Brahmana. He was fixed in Devotional service in his young days.
One day his father asked him to bring wood & grass from the forest. While returning, he saw a prostitute & a man enjoying their senses. Due to attraction Ajamila brought same prostitute to his house & gave up his chaste wife. He neglected & abused his parents. Later he started living a sinful life.
In his last movements of life, he saw four ghostly people came to him & started dragging him out of his body. Out of fear, he called his son 'Narayan' & suddenly four divine personalities appeared & rescued him from yamadutas. They were Vishnudutas who also gave him 2nd life. Then Ajamila went to Haridwar & chanted the Holy Name of Lord constantly. So he got purified. Again Visnudutas came & took him to the spiritual world.
Sukadev Goswami says whoever hears this story sincerely, will be purified of all sinful reactions & will surely go to spiritual world.
If this is the result of chanting the Holy Name even by mistake, then can you imagine what would be the result, when one chants seriously?
As a doctor, Chaitanya mahaprabhu gave the medicine for Kaliyuga. That medicine is chanting Holy Name " HARE KRISHNA HARE KRISHNA KRISHNA KRISHNA HARE HARE HARE RAMA HARE RAMA RAMA RAMA HARE HARE"
Meaning of Holy Name is, we pray "Hey Radhe Hey Krishna please engage me in your service"
In Bhagwat Gita chapter 8.5, Krishna says
anta- Kale ca mam eva smaran muktva kalevaram
yaha prayati sa mad-bhavam yati nasty atra samsayah
Whoever quits his body remembering me, attains my nature. Of this there is no doubt.
In Chaitanya Bhagwat it is given that whoever thinks that 1 name of Lord is equal to 1 crore of Ashwamegh Yajna, is a Pashandi i.e a Rascal. Because we can not compare Lords Holy Name with any material benefit.
